He Succours Them That Are Tempted
For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
Hebrews 2:18I am no expert on angels, but I know that man was made a little lower than them. Yet it pleased God to send His Son, not as an angel, but as a man. For thirty pieces of silver, the going price of a slave, Jesus became a prisoner so that we might be set free.
Jesus came to this earth and took on the image and likeness of man to die for a world that did not deserve redemption. Not only did Jesus come as a man, but He was tempted as a man and persecuted as a man.
And why? So that He could be your High Priest and succour them that are tempted. The simile for succour is to aid, assist or help one who is in difficulty. We are all tempted, not of God, but because of our own lusts. Yet, even when we are drawn away by our own lusts we have a Saviour who wants to help us get out of the situation.
The Bible says that if you call upon the name of the Lord, you shall be saved. The name of the Lord is indeed a strong tower, and the righteous run into it and they are saved. Jesus came to this earth, was tempted of Satan, but Jesus had the enemy running. And today, demons still tremble at the name of Jesus.
You can save yourself lots of time if, instead of trying to overcome temptation using your own strength and abilities, you would call upon the name of Jesus. God always gets the glory — read any Bible story and one thing always stands out — God always gets the glory. Does God get the glory for the victories He has won for you?
Jesus became flesh so that He could overcome flesh. Death is no more ruler of the day, but you have a High Priest in Jesus who gives an abundant life to them that believe in Him. Have you called upon the name of your Succourer today? Have you called upon the name of Jesus to help you through the day today?
