In any battle there must be a confrontation. And in any war, only one can come out victorious. I want you to know something today - when your enemies come up against you and rejoice over you, know that it is only for a season. All things work together for good to them that love God and who are the called according to His purpose. God will make your enemies scatter before you.

The scribes and the Pharisees thought that they had defeated Jesus. By arresting Him, "like a thief in the night," and pronouncing a perverse judgment over Him, they thought that they had won the battle. Their rejoicing was but for a season. When the veil of the temple was torn in two, the Pharisees and scribes, with their high priest, were defeated. They could no longer intercede for mankind because Jesus bridged the gap for man to talk to God directly.

Also, the confrontation that Jesus had with the scribes and the Pharisees was not to overcome the law, but to add to the law. The law brought hardness and difficulty; it was cold and enforced upon the people. But Jesus Christ came in grace and in truth, "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth through Jesus Christ."

Galatians 2 says, "a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ." Jesus said, "the truth shall set you free." And who is that Truth? But Jesus Christ. In the Sanhedrin, the scribes and Pharisees resorted to evil tactics, lies and deceit to condemn Jesus to Calvary. The law could not hold weight against the King of kings, and lies had to be proclaimed to crucify Jesus.

We can try as hard as we want to to get into Heaven by living the law. But your hard works will not get you into Heaven. It is only by believing in Jesus Christ that you can be saved. "For ye are not under the law, but under grace." The law has been covered by grace because of what Jesus did for you over 2,000 years ago.
