In the Belly of the Fish
Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
Jonah 1:17Where you are at this very moment is as a result of the sum total of your obedience to God. If you ever want to know why you are where you are right now, go to God and find out.
Jonah was given a simple instruction, "Arise, go to Nineveh, and cry against it." There was a route that Jonah needed to follow to get to Nineveh. Instead, "Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish." What Jonah was faced with was two different routes ... the one route would take him to where God wanted him to be; the other was a route of disobedience.
In your life, God has a route for your life. Psalm 37:23 says, "The steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord, and he delighteth in his way." There are two aspects to this verse. God has established or ordered a route (a purpose, a plan, a set of commandments, a defined pathway) for your life. But the second part of this verse talks about obedience.
"He delighteth in his way." There are two ways ... your way or Gods way. Follow the route God ordered for you and yes, indeed, you will delight in that road.
When Jonah decided to follow his own path that path led to destruction and dismay. Jonah was in the belly of a fish for three days and three nights, where he repented and God was able to deliver him. God is a God of second-chances. He showed mercy to Jonah and gave him a second chance.
You may find yourself in a problem for months and years. If you are in a fishs belly right now, I ask you to examine your life. Do you know Jesus Christ? And if you are saved, ask God, "Lord, what do I need to do to get out of the fishs belly?" God is a God of deliverance, mercy, compassion and grace. He will deliver you. But you must know that your life requires obedience to God to share in His blessings for your life.
