A God of Grace and Mercy

Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: For I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

Jonah 4:2

When was the last time you had to appease the gods for your sins? When was the last you had to offer a cow to your ancestors so that they could leave you alone? When was the last time you had to sacrifice a bull or a goat so that the gods would have mercy upon you? The truth is ... the true and the living God (the God of Abraham, Isaac and Elijah, the God of fire) does not require any of this from us. He does not want any sacrifice from us, except our surrender to Him.

Obedience to God is important. And it paves our road for us. But when we are disobedient does that mean that God just leaves us? When we fail to do what God tells us to do, does He smite us with lightning or famine? If it is one thing I would love to leave you with today, it is this, "God is a God who is slow to anger."

1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." God is a God of grace, mercy and compassion. You cannot measure Gods love for you. He just loves you. And He loves you. And He keeps on loving you. Gods love is not like a wind-up clock that needs to be recharged every sixty minutes ... Gods love never runs out.

His mercies are new every morning. Every morning you have a bowl of second chances waiting for you. Every day He reminds you that His grace is sufficient for you. If you feel like you have disappointed God, then go down on your knees and tell God all about it. God says that if you humble yourself He will hear from Heaven and heal you.

Yes, we must not take advantage of Gods grace; but when you do make a mistake, run TO your God of grace and mercy and love. He will forgive you, and He will restore you, and He will lead you into still waters ... just as He promises in His Word.
