Doubting the Word

And that lord answered the man of God and said, Now, behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be?

2 Kings 7:19

Isn't it amazing how we find it so easy to believe our newspapers and our television news reports about the tragedies in this world, yet we find it so difficult to believe Gods promises in the Word of God? Is it perhaps because we live in a world of the possible whereas the Bible was written for people who believe in the impossible? Or perhaps it is because we can see the things that happen in and around us but we cannot see the God that is so often praised in His Word?

The single, most harmful thing that will keep you from receiving blessings in your life is doubt. Forget about envy and strife and bitterness and anger. They just encourage doubt in your life. Focus on doubt, because doubt is the absence of faith.

Heard the phrase, "Its on the tip of my tongue"? Well, that's what doubting Gods Word does. Its on the tip of your tongue, but you just can't say it. Elisha told the kings doubtful assistant in 2 Kings, "Two handfuls of grain will be sold for a shekel tomorrow in the gate of Samaria. You'll watch it with your own eyes, but you wont eat so much as a mouthful."

Shame. One word of doubt from the kings assistant stopped him from receiving a multitude of blessings. Amidst the famine, this assistant made a conclusion based on what he saw, and sarcastically commented, "Oh. We shall continue to starve. Who ever heard of the windows of heaven opening and pouring out food?" I guess he never heard of how God fed the Israelites in the desert for over 40 years.

I ask you today, "Are you a person of faith who can stare famine in the face and still say, My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus, or are you looking at your situation and giving up hope?" The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is a God who delivers and who delights in the impossible. Trust Him.
