In the Valley

And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.

1 Samuel 17:2

Lets look at the situation Gods children were facing when Goliath challenged the Israelites. Its a situation that many of us find ourselves in today ... our enemies are on the mountaintop and we are in the valley of Elah. Any person will know that if the enemy is above you, they have the advantage over you. They can span your entire army, they can see your activities, they know your next move, and they will crush you.

Your weapons cannot reach the mountaintop but their weapons can reach the valley. And if you decide to attack, you are slowed down by the accent to the top whilst your enemies stride downhill to conquer you. The odds are not in your favour.

Is this your situation today? Satan stands on a mountaintop, laughing at you and scorning you whilst you sit in fear and doubt in the valley? The problem with many believers today is that they are just not prepared to fight the spiritual battle to which they are called.

They are happy to harbour unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, malice, jealousy, or gossip. But they do not want to take up the call to fight the spiritual war. And if you think you are standing on a mountaintop because you are rich or prosperous, but you are not actively engaged in spiritual warfare; my friend, you are still in the valley. You need to do what Paul said, "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life."

God is looking for a people that possess His Spirit — a people that will take the kingdom by force. There is no time to be stuck in a valley of despair, facing a Goliath while the enemy rejoices over you. God is looking for a people that will declare war in the heavenlies. You need to set yourself in array in Gods kingdom to take up your armour and fight. Are you getting out of your valley and finding your position in the battle?
