Self Assessment
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brothers eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye.
Matthew 7:3Whens the last you assessed your life? It is important that we seek out the beams in our eyes. When we have beams in our eyes our vision is blurred, we cannot see the things God wants us to see, we cannot dream the dreams God wants to show us, we cannot see the long-distance vision of where God is taking us. We become complacent in our lives, living life a day at a time.
A beam does not necessarily mean sin in our lives. It could be laziness, a disinterest in the things of God, losing the fear of the LORD, a love for the things of this world, reaching a comfort zone in our walk with God; it could be anything that stops you from being effective in the kingdom of God.
Beams can take you out of the plans that God has for your life. Some beams also cause poverty and sickness or marital problems. Other beams bring spiritual destruction whilst others invite thieves into our lives. When your life reaches stagnation or you start losing momentum for the things of God, search your life for beams.
And never compare the beams in your eyes to the small chips in those around you. The kingdom of God is about taking responsibility and measuring our lives against the Word of God and His standards.
Assess your life. Sometimes it is scary, but God will be much more pleased with a child who wants to be moulded and shaped than one who wants to be a good tree that bears bad fruit. Sometimes we find beams that could bring disappointment.
Do not be discouraged. When you take that first step to be a holy person and a royal priesthood and you cast those beams from you, Satan will lie to you but God will reward you. As you draw closer to God, you can be assured that God will draw closer to you.
