The Power of the Cross
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Luke 10:19I heard a story of how burglars in South Africa are able to get their jobs done right. Before they break into a house they burn a hyenas tail at the windows of the home and the muti (or black magic) behind this causes the people inside the house to fall into a deep sleep. Scary, you might think?
The Bible says that Jesus gave you power — dynamic power - to overcome any work of the enemy. This includes the problems in life and it includes the evil that we encounter on a daily basis. Some of us today might think that this power is not possible.
But Daniel did not — and he escaped the lions den. Moses did not either, and he crossed the Red Sea on dry land. Neither did Elisha, and an axe floated in the water. Jesus did not doubt either, and he made a fig tree wither by simply speaking to it.
And then Jesus told us, "If we speak to our mountains, and tell the mountain to be cast into the sea, AND YOU DO NOT DOUBT IN YOUR HEART, it shall be done." Jesus was not speaking metaphorically when He said this ... He created the mountains and you are His representative here on earth. And as His representative, He has given you all the power you need to do what He needs you to do here on earth ... even defy death.
The power of the cross overcomes every fear, even the fear of death. The power of the cross is unlimited power in your hands; but you need to believe. A mans spirit believes it because it is our spirit that communicates to the Holy Spirit, but it is our flesh that disappoints us and that looks at situations as they are.
Paul encourages us to "die daily" to this world. We need to have our minds renewed by the Holy Spirit so that our spirits stir us into action. It is the spirit that knows the power that comes from the name and the blood of Jesus. Allow the Holy Spirit to renew your mind to the power of the cross and His resurrecting power.
