Where Is Your God?

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place. This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

Genesis 28:16 to 17

Where is your God? Is He in the heavens only? Perhaps God is only in certain parts of the world, far away from the degradation and filth that we are exposed to? Perhaps He is standing right beside you this very minute and you do not even realize it?

Jacob was in the wilderness and gathered stones to make a pillow. Having dreamt of things to come to pass, he awakes and is sore afraid because he did not realize that God was in that place with him. After God speaks to him, he builds God an altar, and calls the place Bethel, meaning House of God.

Too often we confine God to church saying, "This is the house of God." When we need to search for God we go running to Pastors and senior leaders hoping that they will hear from God for us. For too long we confined God to a box, limiting God because of our own limitations.

God does not need a building. He spoke to Jacob in the wilderness, He spoke to Paul on the road to Damascus, He spoke to Joseph in a prison cell, He sent angels to Lot in a condemned, polluted city. My God can reach you wherever you are.

Does that mean we no longer need a church? God forbid. But what I am saying is that God is with you at all times. Don't, not for a moment, think that God has forsaken you.

God is omnipresent; His presence is everywhere. You cannot run from Him and you cannot overtake Him. He is beside you wherever you go. He is in your home. He is in your office. The Lord God Almighty neither slumbers nor sleeps. When you stand on the mountaintops, He is there. When you are in the deepest valley He is there too. Remember that God promises to be with you always and forever ... He honours His Word to be a God who will never leave you nor forsake you.
