Seedtime and Harvest

Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Galatians 6:7 to 8

Have you ever planted apple seeds and expected banana trees to grow? Or perhaps you planted chilli seeds and expected a beanstalk? Obviously not. Its a simple truth that whatever you sow, that you shall reap.

The same applies when it comes to your desires. Yes, it is true that God wants to give you the desires of your heart. But never forget what Psalm 37 says, "Delight yourself in the Lord." Its a lot like Matthew 6:33, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."

Where have you been sowing your seeds? We can desire a fast car, a big house, a lovely holiday home — but all these tend to poverty and corruption if you do not know the King of kings. Jesus said that we must not lay up treasures on earth, where they get corrupted by moths and rust, and the thief breaks in and steals. But when you lay up treasures in heaven, you reap life everlasting.

Does this mean you must get rid of the nice car and home? Of course not. Theres a fine line between being blessed by God and being enslaved by your blessings. When God sends you a harvest, it is time to sow again. But when you hold onto that harvest, and your life becomes a life of expecting only earthly blessings and a bigger harvest, you are sowing into the world and you will reap corruption.

Sow towards the Spirit. Spend time doing Gods will for your life. Sow your time and your finances into things that will bring glory to God. Be not deceived, God is not mocked. A man who sows seeds of sin will reap death and destruction. But, when you sow seeds of life, you will reap life everlasting. There will always be opportunity to sow and there will always be a harvest; either sour grapes or sweet wine — and the choice of harvest is yours.
