Love and Fear

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

1 John 4:18

The love of God - can you give a description of Gods love? I have but one word ... infinity. It is so high you cannot get over it; so deep you can't get under it and so wide that you cannot get around it.

When Gods love fills you up you can rejoice, you can sing and shout, you can clap your hands and you can be glad. And you can go another few hundred kilometres on the road that He has ordained for you.

Perfect love drives out fear because fear has torment. Do you know what Websters dictionary says about torment? Torment is defined as extreme pain or anguish, the utmost degree of misery, either of body or mind. You can get nothing worse than torment.

Yet Gods love drives out even the worst emotion you may be feeling. If it is one thing that drives us crazy, it is our emotions. Yet the Word says that Gods love is able to get your emotions in check as well. Torment brings doubt, depression, despondency, fear, sadness, misery — the list of negatives just goes on and on.

But His love brings peace. God wants to perfect His love within you. He wants to drive out fear, the torment and the negativity in our lives. Every day, you need to remember how much you need Gods never-failing, everlasting love to be happy. And not a superficial happiness, but a resounding spirit of joy.

Gods love never fails. If you are fighting battles at the moment, and feel like an emotional shipwreck, I encourage you to get into Gods presence. Let His love saturate you. It is only in the presence of a living God that there is fullness of joy. And that joy, the joy of the LORD God Almighty, shall be your strength.
