Trading In the Fig Leaves

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Genesis 3:7

There is only one colour when God looks at you, and that's transparency. The Bible says that nothing is hidden from God; what is done in secret will be revealed in the light.

Have you traded in your fig leaves yet? Adam and Eve tried to cover their transparency and their sin by using fig leaves. They worked hard to sew together a few fig leaves and get dressed. But one thing was evident. The fig leaves could not protect them and could not take away their trespasses. They were naked, and God saw their nudity.

Its the same with you and me. We do something wrong and we sew together a few fig leaves to cover it up. We think that doing good or giving something to charity or repaying your "sin debt" by works is going to get you forgiveness. But it doesn't. No fig leaf you use — not the good deeds, not the obedience to man, absolutely nothing — can take away your sin. You are exposed and there is only one thing that can help you.

When God saw that mans attempt to hide their nudity was futile, God took action. "Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them." The first blood sacrifice came from the Father. The only way Adam and Eve could be clothed again in purity was through a blood sacrifice.

And thousands of years later, when sin could no longer be covered by coats of animal skins, God came to earth and became the Lamb for you and for me. The Messiah, the Saviour, the man Christ Jesus, paid the price, in full, for you and for me.

Theres no use hanging onto fig leaves. You cannot work your way into Heaven. Salvation is free to all. The price paid already. There is only one way to redemption and forgiveness of sins; and that is through the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ.
