The Spirit of the Lord Is Upon Me
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:18 to 19 (paraphrased)There is so much that one can do when in the Lords business. You are able to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the broken-hearted, set the captives free, heal the sick, and to get the world out of their condemnation and damnation and lead them to the living God.
I love what the Word says about the qualification to do any of the above — "the Spirit of the Lord is upon me." Nowhere does God ask for theological degrees, masters and doctorates. There is only one qualification — you must have the Holy Spirit abiding upon you.
But why does the Bible say "Upon" and not "inside"? Does the Holy Spirit not abide in us? Yes He does. But the word "upon" comes from the Greek word "epi" meaning to be over something or resting on a surface, like a tablecloth covers the table. It denotes replacement. One does not see the wooden table but rather a beautiful cloth, woven together, to brighten the table and the room.
Yes, its true that the Holy Spirit lives inside us. But God wants more than that. God does not want you to lock the Holy Spirit in a closet. He wants the Holy Spirit to cover us, to consume us. The worldly, fleshly desires must fade away and people must only see the Spirit of the Lord blanketing you.
Just as the tablecloth compliments the table and the entire room, so too will the Holy Spirit compliment you and your surroundings.
You are a living witness of the Truth, and the Holy Spirit is able to make you an effective witness in your neighbourhood, state, city, your country and your world.
