Being Impartial
My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
James 2:1It is so easy to treat people because of the way they appear. In Gods kingdom, though, God does not expect His children to show partiality.
Imagine if John 3:16 read, "For God so loved the rich" or "For God so loved the famous" — what price the rest of the world would need to pay to receive salvation? But God was never impartial to mankind. "For God so loved the world." Are you a part of the world? Then you are included in Gods love.
God does not look at our weight or our clothing or our wallets or purses. He sent His Son for all and Jesus Christ went to the cross for all. Not just for me, not just for my family. But for the whole world.
How do you look at people in the world? James goes on to say, "But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors." That's a scary thought; that when we start treating people differently because they are poor or different from us, we are sinning.
How do you start moving towards being impartial towards others? Well, there is only one way — you need to be made perfect in Gods love. Gods love does not show partiality. Gods love crosses racial, financial, and social lines, amongst others. If you feel that you have been or that you still show partiality, repent of it and ask God to fill you with His love.
When you are filled with Gods love you are able to love your neighbour as you love yourself. And God is always willing to fill His people with His love. Without that love all you do in the kingdom of God is vain. Without Gods love you become a sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. But with Gods love, you can conquer all and overcome all division.
