Honour and Fear
A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if I then be a father, where is mine honour? And if I be a master, where is my fear?
Malachi 1:6Jesus, talking about the end times, wrote, "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." The love that Jesus spoke of here was not a worldly love, but the everlasting love of God — Jesus was talking about believers. And in this verse, we see that when the love for God waxes cold, iniquity abounds. When you find yourself sinning then you can know that your love for God is waxing cold — you are beginning to dishonour God and you are losing the fear of God in your life.
"If I then be a father, where is mine honour?" saith the Lord of hosts. Would you smoke in front of your father? Do you drink and perform in front of your father? Do you disrespect your father? Where is Gods honour when we can smoke on His holy ground? Where is His honour when we can go to church still reeking of alcohol from the night before?
And where is the fear of the Lord when one can fall off to sleep during a church service? Where is Gods honour when we dress half-naked to church? Do you dress half-naked when you go for a job interview? When you're meeting a potential new master you make sure that the slip-slops are at home, the shorts and mini skirts are left in the closet, hair is neatly combed, earrings are removed, and you look professional. But we feel we can go to church however we want to — God will accept us. Where is the respect? Where is the fear of the Lord?
Beloved, if you want to change the world, start with examining your life first. Are you consecrated unto the Lord? Is your life dedicated to the Lord and do your actions, in and out of church, reflect that? Or do you stroll into church late on a Sunday morning disrespectfully and dishonour the King of kings and the Lord of lords?
