When You Don't Know What To Pray

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Acts 2:2

A while ago I was speaking to a friend and telling her about how I was finding it difficult to pray. And she amazed me with the most peculiar answer, "When you don't know what to pray for, pray for rain."

"Pray for rain?" I asked.

"Yes, pray for rain. Pray for a fresh new anointing. Pray for a fresh cup from God. And wait for it." And then it all dawned on me.

When a farmer needs a fresh crop, he prays for rain. When the farmer wants his crop to sprout and grow ... he needs rain. When the farmer is dying in the midday sun and needs refreshment, he prays for rain.

When the dust is unsettled and you cannot see around you, pray for rain. When you are being scorched by the enemy and he just does not want to stop the heat, pray for rain. When you are stuck in a desert with the scorpions and the snakes pray for rain. When your vision is blurry and everything around you looks hazy, pray for rain.

Pray for a fresh cup of anointing in your life. Pray for that refreshing, soothing rain to fill your life with the Holy Spirit fire and anointing.

Have you ever seen a cup of old tea washed out? You have got to empty the cup so that you can fill it up again. But instead of just emptying the cup, you have to let that cup run under the tap and let the water just run through you. The cup must be dependent on that fresh water to empty it. And the more the fresh water enters the cup, the more the left-over coffee is emptied out.

When you don't know what to pray for, be like that little cup and just wait under the tap for a refill of fresh water.
