The Wilderness Is Where I Grow
So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
Exodus 15:22As much as the wilderness is a dry, barren place for you and I, we need to know that the wilderness is necessary in our lives. But, the plan is never for you to get trapped and stuck in the wilderness, but to do two things:
Firstly, you need to praise God in the wilderness. No murmuring against God. You need to ask God and get His escape route from the wilderness. The wilderness is a good place to praise and worship God. The wilderness helps you to draw closer to God and develops your character. It is in the wilderness that your faith is built and you can be well-pleasing to God.
Second, you need to fight in the wilderness. It is in the wilderness that God will teach you how to resist the enemy, how to smite and cripple the enemy, and how to get the enemy running in seven directions.
It is in the wilderness that men and women of God can get tactical and discover the vices of the enemy. It is in the wilderness, when you are left alone to fight the serpents and the scorpions, that God teaches you vital spiritual combat and military tactics. He opens His closet of weaponry and shows you how to use the right weapon against the right enemy.
We often think that it is on the mountaintop where one would feel all the strength. But that strength actually comes from climbing out of the valley of your despair. Being on the mountaintop is fabulous, but it is in the valley that you grow to new heights with the Lord.
The next time you find yourself in a barren wilderness, do not despair. Praise God, firstly, and give Him thanks in everything. And second, fight your way to spiritual and physical victory.
