Are You a Doer of the Word?
And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
Mark 4:24When you read Gods Word, do you read just to fulfil your duty? Or do you read Gods Word so that you can let that seed settle in your heart? When you let that seed settle in your heart the Holy Spirit is able to work on the inside to develop you on the outside.
Lets take an example. If a little child said a swear word innocently in front of his mother, he would be rebuked and his mother would correct him. The little child has two choices with the word he has now heard. He can neglect them or he can take heed and not swear again. Should he choose to ignore what his mother says it is disobedience and we all know that disobedience has a rather painful reward.
What do you do with Gods Word? Do you do what the Word tells you to do? Heres a scary truth — if you are reading the Bible just to fulfil duty you're wasting your time. The Word will not settle in your heart and you will not remember what is read.
"With what measure you mete" is better translated, "You shall be treated according to the measure with which you use that which you have learnt." The more you take Gods Word and use it the more God gives you. The Bible is alive and God can use the same verse to speak to five hundred people in five hundred different circumstances and that very one verse will yield the same result ... good fruit.
Do you have a desire to draw closer to God? Then do not just read Gods Word. Don't just memorize His Word. A memory verse is much better remembered when performed and lived rather than reading the verse over and over again. Ask any child — they learn faster if you make them do things than asking them to read up on it.
Today, be like David and hide Gods Word in your heart, and walk that Word in everything that you do.
