My Trust Is In the Lord

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5

Have you ever flown on an aeroplane? My first experience was rather daunting. The take-off was perfect, but during the flight we encountered a small storm. This caused a bit of turbulence and the plane was shaken for a few seconds. I sat in this plane and just thought, "There really is not much I can do right now." A few people got perturbed and uncomfortable; holding onto the armrests a bit more securely.

But I learnt a valuable lesson that evening. Our lives are much like the lives of those on an aeroplane. Our lives, after receiving Jesus, take off beautifully. We are serving God in spirit and in truth and we trust God every step of the way.

But sooner or later a little turbulence comes along. We get shaken around a bit. We might even feel afraid. But what are your options? What can you do? Are you going to grab a parachute and get out of that aeroplane? Are you going to scream frantically and close your eyes and hope it all goes away?

I learnt that when the turbulences came I had only one option — I had to sit tight in the safety of that aeroplane. I learnt that even though we go through some turbulence in our lives we are still in the safety of our Strong Tower. I learnt that sometimes the weather is a bit discomforting, but when God is with us, we can still fly above those stormy clouds.

I learnt that when the turbulence came I needed to trust in the pilot. Not in my abilities; not in my strength and definitely not with my finite knowledge of how to drive a car. My knowledge of driving a car will not steer an aeroplane to safety. I had to put my trust in a pilot that has flown planes before.

Is your trust in God? Is He your shield and your refuge, your God, your Saviour and your Deliverer? Know that you will remain safe in that aeroplane of Gods love, trust, comfort, guidance and strength.
