The World's Expectations

Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Matthew 2:2

They were looking for a palace, but they found a manger. They expected a room of kings and queens, but they found a very simple mother and father, abiding with the cattle and the donkeys. They expected to see a child adorned in precious stones and gold, but they found a child wrapped in swaddling clothes. Truth is, the worlds expectations are never what God expects from us or expects us to deliver.

We live in a world that is continually changing; yet we serve a God who never changes. Why, then, do we try to fit into a world that is so insecure when we are perfectly pieced into the puzzle of God? Look around you. We have this constant urge to be more like the world. And then, when the world realizes that they cannot get us to be like them they start condemning us and throwing railing accusations at us.

The world expects us to fight back. The Word of God says, "If any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also."

The world expects us to hate our enemies. The Bible teaches us to "love our enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you."

The world expects us to give up the Christ in us for the pleasures of the world. Paul wrote, "But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ."

The world expects us to be perfect. God says, "For all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God." I'm not perfect; I'm just a sinner who found Gods grace and mercy.

Don't try to live up to the worlds expectations. This world is not our home; we are just passing through. Rather focus on what His Word asks of us to deliver and please your Father in Heaven.
