When a child is born into the royal family, that child is expected to be brought up a certain way. There are certain protocols that need to be obeyed throughout the child's life. The child receives the best teaching, with the best discipline; the best gifts, but at the right time. Everything about royalty is grand, superb, above excellence!

God calls you a royal priesthood - such titles go beyond the titles of this world. In days of old you are either in the royal family or you are a priest. Today that role is one, according to 1 Peter 2:9 - you are royalty and you are a priesthood. It sounds all nice, until you really understand what is being said.

What this verse implores you to do is to grow into the fulness of kingship. Paul said that "you are already a royal priesthood." He did not look at the sin in people's lives, nor did he look at what the state of the believer was. He said to them, as I say to you today, "When you give your heart to Jesus you become a new creation. You enter into a royal family with priesthood roots." In other words, as a baby, new in the Word, you need to grow so that, at some time in your life, people examine your life and know that you are royalty.

All babies cry; and at the age of two most of them throw tantrums. They go through teething, and move from drinking milk to eating meat. But, spiritually speaking, all this is done so that you can reach your fulness in Christ. Over time you forget the tantrums, you lose your dirty habits, and you are transformed to behave like the King.

You were re-born into a royal family; and God, as your Heavenly Father wants to teach you to imitate a life of godliness. You were created in His image; which means that your life needs to display a mirror image of God. That is what being a royal priesthood is about! It's about taking responsibility for your life. No excuses, no compromise - what the King says has final root in your life!
