The God of All Flesh
Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?
Jeremiah 32:27At first glance it appears that God is just confirming, yet again, His might and His strength. But this verse is actually a little deeper than that. Lets do a little biology today and dissect this verse.
Firstly, the word "Behold" means, "Watch! Fix your eyes on that which I am going to show you." It is, what our dictionaries call, a demonstrative particle — it means that something is definitely going to happen.
"I am the LORD," declared JEHOVAH. I am the one and only, true and living God. I am the God of all flesh. Flesh denotes weakness and corruption, unable to hinder the execution of Gods purposes. It is like Isaiah 22 says, "the door God opens no man shall shut. And the door God shuts no man shall open." In our carnal nature, we cannot stop God from His judgments. His ways are mightier than our ways and His thoughts are beyond our thoughts. So yes, Behold! Something is going to happen.
Finally, "is there anything too hard for Me?" Now, God could easily prove His authority and power by declaring, "There is nothing too hard for Me." Instead, he asks the prophet, "Jeremiah, listen to Me! Is there anything I cannot do? Is there anything that can surpass Me?"
When somebody asks you a question, it requires thought. The answer would suggest, "Listen, and think about what I have done in the past. Have I ever let you down? Have I ever forsaken you when you needed a friend?"
He was saying, "Jeremiah, I don't want to tell you that I am supreme. I want you to believe that I am the true and the living God." And the only way to believe that He is the I AM is by focusing on the works He has done in your life. The next time you find yourself looking for answers, think about the goodness of the LORD that He has brought to pass in your life.
