Only Human
So Hanameel mine uncles son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine: buy it for yourself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
Jeremiah 32:8There is one thing that many people miss about the great men and women of God mentioned in the Bible — they were all human.
Just like you and me, Satan wouldve approached Jeremiah and, like he always does, try to lie to us or place some doubt in us concerning Gods Word. Nobody in the Bible can say that they were not tempted — not Moses, not Jacob, not Paul; even Jesus was tempted by Satan. All these men and women in the Bible had trials and tribulations to overcome. And, finally, they must have had doubts about the word of God.
Moses, for example, continually made excuses to God for not wanting to deliver Gods people from the Egyptians. So much so that God got angry with him and gave in to Moses request eventually. We look at Abram, whom God promised would be the father of many nations. When Abrams patience ran out on God, he took things into his own hands and had a child from Hagar.
Jeremiah was in prison when God told him to buy the piece of land. But verse 8 says, "Then I knew." Then I knew that Gods word was true. Then I knew that I should never have doubted God in the first place. "Then I knew."
How often do you involve God in the decisions you need to make? How often does God amaze you and you say, "Aaaagh. I know that that was the hand of God." Need to make a big decision? Talk to God first because He already knows the long-term implications of such a decision. Seek Gods counsel and He shall direct thy paths.
