The Fear Factor

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

This verse, if applied correctly, should drive out every trace of fear in your life. I love the way people try to rationalize the fear they have. And then you get those who go to the extreme to get rid of fear. For the born again believer, though, God could not have made it any simpler. If you just believe His Word. That is all He asks you to do. If you took 2 Timothy 1:7, and quoted it every day for the rest of your life, and truly believe that you have no fear, you will have no fear.

Whether you are scared to take a bath or scared of being eaten by a lion — a fear is a fear. Some people fear death. Look at what the Word of God tells us in Job 3:25, "For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me."

God cannot operate in an atmosphere of fear. Fear invites attacks from the enemy. So, instead of living in fear, God gave you three devices to overcome fear — power, love and a sound mind.

The Greek word for power is "dunamis." It means a miraculous power, an abundant ability to overcome by making use of violence and strength. That's the power God has given you.

Then we have love, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love." Gods love is more than sufficient to drive out fear from your life.

And finally, a sound mind. This month, we spoke much about the mind. It is in the mind that fear is created, and then harboured in the heart. You need to continually renew your mind with the Word of God to drive out all fear. It takes time, and there may be times when you have to exercise and speak Gods Word into areas of fear in your life. But remember, God has made you more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus.
