Getting Out of the Desert
Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen. And Pharaoh spoke unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee; the land of Egypt is before thee, in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell.
Genesis 47:1 and 5 — 6aJacob and his eleven sons faced a famine in Canaan. Jacob made the decision that his ten sons were to go to Egypt to buy food. Let me tell you this — if you are not eager to get out of your desert then you will die in your desert. A lot of Christians accept poverty, accept sickness, accept defeat, and then they say, "It is Gods will that I be defeated."
Until you decide that you want to get out, there is not much that God is going to do for you. Your thoughts become your words, and your words become your actions. If you think you are defeated, then you will start speaking and living those words of defeat. And God does not work in an area of defeat.
Let me tell you something else — if you want to get out of your desert, you need to know that God wants you to be delivered. God wants you to be a fountain of living waters. Whatever your situation is, whatever desert you are facing at the moment, you need to stand on Gods Word to get out.
Third, you need to know that Gods plans for your life are not a desert, but a land flowing with milk and honey. The desert is but temporary — but the length of your stay in the desert is, again, dictated by the words of your mouth. The Israelite children stayed in the wilderness for forty years because they moaned. They did not hold onto Gods plans for their lives; they did not believe that God would take them into a land flowing with milk and honey. When things got uncomfortable in the wilderness they murmured against God rather than seeking God.
God wants you out of the desert. Do not build a home in the desert. You're moving on. Obey God when He tells you to move.
