At the Master's Feet
Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
John 12:3In life we all need to sit at the Masters feet. We do not have to earn grace; its a free good gift that comes from God. Sometimes we feel the more we do in the Kingdom of God, the more blessed we will be and the more gracious God will be with us. Truth is ... if you are not spending time at the Masters feet, you are not going to be able to do much in the Kingdom. You might even end up doing more harm than good.
It is at the Masters feet that you get the opportunity to listen to Him. At the Masters feet you can share the experience of His many travels. As you behold His feet, and look at the scars and wounds He endured through all the walking, you can be drawn closer to Him. You realize just how much Jesus has done for you.
But, also, at the Masters feet is rest. Mary could have been doing a lot more, but she chose to rest at the Masters feet. Perhaps the oil she used could have fed many. But it could also have been stolen by the very man who took care of the finances for Jesus. Mary chose to use that precious oil to wash Jesus feet.
But theres more to resting at the Masters feet. "The house was filled with the odour of the ointment." Was it Marys sister, Martha, who caused this wonderful fragrance to inhabit the house, perhaps because of her hard work? Not at all. When you take the time to sit at the Masters feet your life is not the only life that will be impacted. Every person that comes across you will get the fragrance of a mighty anointing in your life. Just as the visitors entered Marys home and smelt the ointment so, too, will you be to those around you.
So instead of scurrying around today and trying to please the Lord with your works, take some time out to just rest at the Masters feet.
