Confessing Your Faults

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.

James 5:16a

Our faults have the power to take us out of fellowship with God. A simple lie, for example, can compound into a lifestyle of lying, if not dealt with. And there are some of us who believe that our sins cannot be shared with others; lest we be condemned.

But the Word encourages us to confess our faults one to another. This is so important in our Christian walk; to be able to admit our weaknesses to other men and women of God. Not only does it bring forgiveness, but healing as well. But you have to be careful who you confess your faults to. Psalm 1 says that you are blessed if you do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. So, firstly, don't go to the world with your problems — they'll just complicate and compound the problem.

Next, be careful who, in the kingdom of God, you go to. You want to find a brother or a sister in Christ who is not going to condemn you for your actions. The person you are looking for is somebody who is going to exhort you and edify you. That person will give you Godly, Bible-based advice and he will lead you to repentance and edification. You are looking for somebody who is going to pray with you, and who is going to bring healing to your life.

And Gods healing is not just to remove sickness, but to restore the body to its whole, original, mint condition. Cancer eats away at a person. But when you are healed, cancer leaves and all damaged parts are restored.

Likewise, when you confess your faults, God is able to remove the iniquity and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. But God goes further — He heals you. He restores you. He makes you whole again. The void you felt when you sinned is removed and you are filled with Gods love and peace again.
