Build My House
Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough, ye clothe you, but there is none warm. Consider your ways.Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.
Haggai 1:6 to 8 (paraphrased)Have you been building Gods kingdom? Or do you see your hard-earned money go into bags with holes? Have you been sowing but reaping little? Heres some food for thought:
"Ye have sown much, and bring in little." Where are you sowing your seeds? Do not sow seeds blindly but exercise wisdom in your giving. Psalm 112 says, "A good man will guide his affairs with discretion."
Are you putting your wages into bags with holes? There are always niceties that tempt us and entice us to invest in. Faster cars, bigger televisions, huge mansions. And nothing wrong with wanting these, but Psalm 37 says, "Delight thyself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." Put God first and don't be hasty in spending.
Are you building Gods house? When the Pastor announces renovations to be made or to build a bigger church, do you hide away when he asks his sheep to sow a seed? Or do you start grumbling, "Why do we need this now?"
Are you a cheerful giver in the kingdom of God? 2 Corinthians 9 talks about a giver, somebody who gives "not grudgingly, nor of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver."
Not grudgingly. Not unwillingly, not against what you want to do. Nor of necessity. In other words, don't give your tithes and offerings because the Bible says so. Don't give your tithes because you'll feel like a thief or be cursed.
Giving comes from a love towards God; a love that brings obedience and a desire to see the kingdom of God grow. A love that wants to see Gods house built on every hill. "Lord, I love You, and I give, not because I must, and not because somebody has asked me to, but I give because You gave Yourself for me. I give because I love You and want to see Your kingdom advance."
