Showing Empathy
Jesus wept.
John 11:35There are so many times in our lives when we find it difficult to empathize with others. We come across as these tough human beings that need to be examples to people. We need to show the world that we are the head and not the tail. Correct?
But Jesus, who is God, decided to weep when Lazarus died. His dear friend had passed away and He wept. Do you know what is so strange about this? Jesus knew that He was going to raise Lazarus from the dead. But still He wept. Still He empathized with everybody at the home and He became as one of those people that had lost a dear friend.
We know the power that works in us; we know that we serve a God that can raise the dead. But we also need to know that we live in a world where there is sorrow and pain, where people hurt and are looking for comfort and relief.
And you have all of that in you. God is a God of compassion and mercy. Jesus did not show weakness when He cried; He showed empathy. In Ecclesiastes we read that there is a season to everything in life. There is a time to laugh and a time to cry. There is a time in our lives when we need to sympathise with others and there will be times when we will rejoice with them.
Be a friend to those around you. So often we look at people around us with disgust because they are not like us. But if we would just take our carnal minds off and look at man the way God looks at them our lives will be transformed. When you start looking at the world through Gods eyes you see a world of opportunity and not a world of dismay and chaos.
Life is too short to miss out on opportunity. Look at the world through Gods eyes and you will see a crop ready to be harvested, a world ready to receive Gods love and mercy; and not a world wrapped in wickedness and destined for hell.
