Casting Down Thoughts and Imaginations
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2 Corinthians 10:5The mind is a playground for the enemy and if we do not keep our mind under control our thoughts can soon become our actions. We have to consistently renew our minds, says the Bible. And the only way we can renew our minds is by being filled with Gods Word. The Bible goes on to tell us that "our weapons are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds."
What are some of the weapons that God has given us to fight the right battle? Well, for starters, we have the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. The Sword is both an attack and a defence weapon, giving you the ability to stand against the enemy and the ability to enter into the enemys camp. The Word of God, when taken the time to study, is able to protect your mind and you are able to use the Bible to bring every thought into captivity.
The next weapon is prayer. Prayer is one of the most powerful tools in a Christians warfare closet. What is praying? It is a conversation between you and your Father. It is not a monologue and it is not an assignment where you use the best words in your vocabulary. It is a conversation just as you would speak to your friend or parents. The more time you spend in prayer the more God is able to develop your prayer life and the more He can renew your mind to be a more effective warrior.
Next we have fasting. Fasting works most effectively when combined with prayer. If you are going to fast make sure you set aside time in prayer. Fasting is denying your own desires and lusts to allow the Holy Spirit to do a mightier work within you.
The Bible says that if you resist the devil — if you fight back and oppose and stand unmoved by his attempts, he must flee. Use the weapons God has given you to make the enemy scatter in seven directions.
