Shattering Strongholds

No man can enter into a strong mans house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

Mark 3:27

A stronghold is a prison that keeps you bondage and stunts you from doing what God wants you to do. Strongholds include anger, persistent depression, pride, envy, jealousy, gluttony, bitterness, uncontrolled desires for sex, substance abuse, addiction, and the list goes on and on. But there are other strongholds as well. Terminal sickness, such as cancer, TB, sugar diabetes, hypertension, and AIDS. Anything that keeps you in a prison for an extended period of time is a stronghold.

How does a believer shatter strongholds? Well, firstly, you need to acknowledge that there are strongholds operating in your life. Some are obvious because they manifest in the physical - anger or depression, for example. But other strongholds require prayer and revelation from the Holy Spirit. Ask God to search you and to expose those hidden enemies that are keeping you captive. Fast, if you have to, to receive your revelation.

Second, you need to give your life to Jesus and you need to confess your sins to God. If you have anger problems tell God about it. Confession is a sign that you want to change. It is agreeing with God that you are living contrary to His Word. Third, forgive. If you hold onto unforgiveness, then the next point will not help you.

Fourth, humble yourself and repent. Repentance is a heart attitude, not lip service. Repentance means that you need the blood of Jesus to remove the iniquity and to cleanse you and give you the healing you require.

Finally, get into Gods Word and fill your life with His Word. Ask God to break every stronghold in your life, and as God sets you free, fill those gaps in your life with the Word of God. Jesus said that He came to set the captives free. Believe that as you trust in Him, that He will deliver you and set you free from every stronghold that has kept you prisoner in life.
