Giving It All to Jesus
And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
Genesis 22:12Abraham was not called the "Friend of God" for nothing. God pushed him to his limits and stretched and tried Abrahams faith many times. Todays Bible verse talks about Abrahams faith in God when he was asked to sacrifice his only son, Isaac.
Many years prior to this, though, God told Abraham that he would be a father of many nations. Odds were that this was impossible in the flesh. Abraham was ninety years old and his wife was barren. All the odds were against him. Yet he believed God. He remained faithful and waited years for the fulfilment of the promise.
God blessed him with a son from his old wife. Abraham was certain that this child would be the seed that would make him a father of many nations. Yet, a few years later, Abraham is asked to give up his son and, with that, the promise.
Has God asked you to give up something and you just refuse to let go? Are you clinging onto something that God wants you to give up? Abraham obeyed God; he tied Isaac down to the altar and he was ready to sacrifice his child.
The angel stopped Abraham though. Why? Because God does not want sacrifice; He wants obedience. The Bible asks, "Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."
When God asks you to let go, He wants you to know that something bigger and better is coming. When God tells you to give away the best you have, know that something magnificent is on the way. Abraham was ready to give up his best. God gave up His best for a very undeserving people, yet today we see the rewards of that price paid on Calvary. Give it all to God and allow Him to fill your barns. Do you feel like giving today?
