JEHOVAH
And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
Exodus 6:3Abraham, Isaac and Jacob knew God as God Almighty. Moses knew God Almighty as JEHOVAH, the Eternal God, the God who does not change, the God who is the same yesterday, today and forever. Have you ever wondered about how awesome God truly is? We look at the story of Moses and the ten plagues; how God delivered over two million people from the land of Egypt and from the hand of Pharaoh. What can we learn from this story?
Firstly, JEHOVAH said in Exodus 3:7, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt and have heard their cry." The Israelites were slaves to the Egyptians, their workload was increased; they were beaten and abused. They needed urgent help. And they cried unto the LORD. They prayed from sincere hearts and God set them free.
Second, don't give God the action plan. Isaiah 55:8 says, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD." Our solution to our problem might be divorce or borrowing from the banks. But when you wait upon the LORD and get His action plan, nothing will go wrong.
Third, JEHOVAH is the Almighty God. God could easily have raised up the Israelites to walk out of Egypt. They outnumbered the Egyptians. But God shows His power over the earth by smiting the Egyptians ten times. God showed Pharaoh that He is the King over the waters, over the earth, over the skies, of all beasts and animals, of the dust, and that He is the King of life. The Egyptian magicians and their gods could not match His power. The Egyptian gods could not help them. When God sets you free you are free indeed.
Finally, Exodus 12:12 says, "I AM THE LORD, I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt." The ten plagues that devastated Egypt destroyed the power of each of the ten biggest gods in Egypt. JEHOVAH is the Lord God Almighty.
