Bit by Bit
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
2 Timothy 3:16My friend, we cannot live life choosing selective verses in the Bible by which we need to live by. You cannot say, "Lord, I think today I will live John 3:16 and ... uh, tomorrow, Lord ... I'll live Psalm 1." You have to eat, breathe and live the Word of God in its fulness and in its entirety!
Man teaches that, "The Law does not apply to us because we live under grace." But the Law does apply to us! Jesus said in Matthew 5:17, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets; I am not come to destroy but to fulfil." And then it goes on to say that even if you are angry in your heart with your brother you have committed murder. The Law said, "Do not murder." In other words, do not take action. Jesus said, "Don't let the thought even settle in your heart!"
Does this mean that we now have to go and live the law, and put ourselves under bondage? God forbid! Because Jesus then went one further and spoke these words, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
If you obey these two commandments, with all sincerity, the balance of the law will be fulfilled in your life. These two commandments have a root in one underlying fact - we serve a God of unconditional love!
Out of love He sent His Son to die for you - that same love has been placed inside of you; and it is that love that you need to return to God in sincerity, need to love yourself with, and need to love your neighbour with (but you need to love yourself first).
If you obey these commandments, you will fulfil the Word of God in your life - and not bit by bit, but in its entirety!
