Afraid To Go Forward

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Matthew 14:29 to 30

There are three things you need to know about moving forward:

Firstly, when you take your eyes off Jesus, you are going to be afraid. I once read, "Do not tell God how big the problem is; tell your problem how big God is." When your focus shifts off where God wants you to be, when you take your eyes off Jesus and His Kingdom, then you begin to see the winds and the storms. But as long as you stay focused on Jesus, you will walk on water.

Second, fear works the opposite to faith. As long as Peter focused on Jesus, the author and finisher of his faith, he did not fear. The Psalmist wrote, "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil. For Thou art with me." 1 John 4 says, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." The only God that can give you this perfect, never-failing love is JEHOVAH, the Lord God Almighty.

Fear shatters faith and destroys hope. As long as you have fear in your life you cannot go forward. Empower yourself in God — focus on Jesus, read the Word of God and pray out any fear in your life. Stand on 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of love and of power and of a sound mind."

Third, remember that we make mistakes. We take the wrong risks sometimes as well. Jesus wanted Peter to walk on the water; but Peter was diverted to look at the situation around him. The important thing is to learn from those mistakes. Do not allow condemnation to settle in, and do not run away from God when you make a mistake. When Peter doubted, "Jesus immediately stretched forth His hand and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?" Jesus stands hand out ready to uphold you when you are afraid to go forward. Reach out, and allow Him to save and deliver you.
