Develop a Christ-Like Character

Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything — and I do mean everything — connected with that old way has to go. Its rotten through and through. Get rid of it. And then take on an entirely new way of life — a God-fashioned life.

Ephesians 4:22 to 24 (The Message Bible)

There is only one road you can be walking on now — either you are walking on a broad road that leads to destruction or you are walking on a narrow road that leads to life eternal. Many of us are, or were, on that broad road. We all have a story to tell. We all will, one day, tell our grandchildren about the days of our youth.

But, more importantly, if you have discovered Jesus, you will tell them how Jesus Christ of Nazareth died on a cross, and rose from the dead three days later to set you free from that life. Paul told the church of Ephesus that they must "put off concerning the former conversation the old man." The old man has died to Christ. "Its rotten through and through." His blood on that cross has released you from that rotten life. You are born again.

When you hand over yourself to God He starts building His character in you. He starts shaping you and moulding you. It is not easy to be changed though. Sometimes God has to do a little pounding, a little beating on the sides, a little shaping and designing. But He always does it because He loves you.

Sometimes you need a gentle tap on the top, or a little push from down below to get you looking more and more perfect. But that pot that He is shaping gets more beautiful day by day. He wants you to be a pot admired by the world, so that the world can glorify and magnify the Potter.

Remember that God shapes you; He mends that crack before that crack spreads and you become unusable. Give yourself freely to God. Let Him shape you into that beautiful reflection of His image. Yes, sin has scarred us, rebellion has brought cracks into our framework, and pain has marred us. Let God mend those cracks and paint over those stains. He will make you beautiful in His time. He always does!
