An Open, Honest Relationship
The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see ...
Habakkuk 1:1The book of Habakkuk gives the account of a spiritual journey, telling of one mans pilgrimage from doubt to worship. The difference between the beginning of the book and the end of the book is striking. In the opening verses of Habakkuk, the prophet is overwhelmed by the circumstances around him. He can think of nothing except the iniquity and violence he sees among his people.
Yet, in the closing verses of the book, Habakkuk writes, "Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines;... Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation."
Here are a few lessons to learn from this prophet, to help you transition your life from one which may look gloomy to a life of hope and salvation in a mighty God:
Understand that it is acceptable to acknowledge the difficulty of the situation. However focus your attention on God rather than on your circumstances. Put your hope in Gods ability to save you.
Ask God the honest questions of your heart. Understand that He can handle them. Draw closer to God through prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the deep things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10 to 11)
Expect the LORD to answer you. Be ready to hear anything He desires to tell you. "I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch and see what He will say unto me" (Habakkuk 2:1).
Realize that Gods way may sometimes feel contradictory to your way. Do not assume that your perspective is accurate. Rather ask God to give you His perspective on every situation.
Finally, write down what God shows you so that when these things come to pass, they will serve as a testimony to His faithfulness. And take action ... purpose in your heart to execute Gods plan of bringing victory to your life.
