The Mind
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
Romans 7:232 Timothy 1:7 says that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love and power and of a sound mind. In Ephesians 6 we are further told to put on the helmet of salvation.
A sound mind comes from the Greek word, "sophronismos," and is a call or admonition to a soundness of mind, moderation and self-control. In other words, it is your mind that you need to keep in check. You need to constantly examine the thoughts going through your mind, and you need to resist the evil, sinful thoughts before they settle in your heart, and fight to retain the thoughts that God is implanting in you.
Dr. Olukoya from Nigeria writes, "The moment you look at the glorified physical features of man you are bound to forget that we are dust of the earth. It is funny, sometimes, when we dress dust in such a flamboyant manner." Yes, the flesh is just dust of the ground. But it is constantly waging a war for our minds.
And that is why God did not leave us without a defence. We know that the only ingredient or substance that can cover and overcome sin is the blood of Jesus. It is the blood of Jesus that saves us and it is the blood of Jesus that makes us presentable unto God. I always wondered why Paul was so specific about the armour of God.
You see, the helmet of salvation is the blood of Jesus. If we are not wearing our helmets we can easily give into sin. But the blood of Jesus, our helmet, overcomes and destroys sin in our lives.
The enemy can plant a little thought in your mind, and then you have the choice. Resist the thought or let the thought settle in your heart. When it settles in your heart, sin is conceived. Today, wear your helmet of salvation and protect your mind. Do not let sin have dominion over you.
