Conforming, Transforming, Renewing
And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2Do you believe that God created you in His image and in His likeness? Just as God is a spirit, you have been created spirit as well. And if you agree, would you further agree with me that He created your mind to be like His mind? Even the angels do not have the privilege of being created in the form that you and I have been created. Why then do so many believers conform to this world?
Conform means to take the fashion of something else, to alter ones mind and character to anothers pattern. The perfect example of conforming would be dancing. When two people dance together they both need to compromise so that each other can conform to the leaders way of dancing. Can you imagine the husband dancing in a rave-like motion whilst the wife dances ballerina? Well, for them to unite, one has to conform to the other.
Paul made it clear that we are not to conform; we are not to take the shape and the pattern of this world. Many a believer has compromised on Gods standards to conform to the things of this world.
But. But notes an opposite to what needs to be done. But, Paul says, we are to be TRANSFORMED. Transform talks about metamorphosis. Just as the caterpillar is changed to a beautiful butterfly, we are to be changed too. How? By the renewing of our minds. Renewing is the renovation, the changing about of the mind so that one can be made better. Just as a house is renovated, we are told to break down and make better our minds.
Why so much emphasis on the mind? Because the head is what controls our destiny. It is with our mind that decisions are made. With the mind you are either going to conform to the world or to the Word ... the ball is always in your court.
