God Is Not a Spark

And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken

1 Kings 18:24

God is NOT a spark. Neither is He a God of fireworks. But He is a consuming fire. Have you ever been near a consuming fire? Have you ever felt the heat of a fire? Have you ever had that fire burn within you? Many of us will answer, "Yes," because there was a time when we were saved, and we felt on fire for the Lord.

But are we still saved today? How many of us still have that fire burning within us? Many of us today have been reduced to a spark with very little, if any, fireworks emanating from our lives. But God is not a spark. He is still that consuming fire. And because we are made in His likeness, we too should continuously remain that fire that we once were. What went wrong?

Firstly, Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal. How many of us challenge the enemy? Instead we wait for the enemy to attack and then we react. That's not how warfare works. Especially when dealing with Satan. Satan is content to sit in a corner and wreak silent havoc in your life. That is one way he gets the fire out of your life ... silently and slowly.

Secondly, Elijah mocked the enemy. Why could he do this? For two reasons: he knew who his God was (a living, all-consuming fire of protection) and he knew that Baal was a dead, lifeless idol created with mens hands — he knew the enemy. How well do you know your God? And how well do you know the enemy?

Next, Elijah repaired the altar that was broken down. If your life is a spark now, you need to start rebuilding that altar. You need to lay hold of your foundation of prayer, the fear of the Lord, and the studying of His Word.

Finally, know that nothing surprises God. When Elijah dressed the bullock, and presented it to the Lord, he asked for water to be added to the sacrifice. God does not get alarmed when the fire in your life is attacked by water — He is still a consuming fire.
