Are You a King?

And Saul answered and said, Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And my family the least of the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Wherefore then speakest thou to me?

1 Samuel 9:21

The Bible describes Saul as a handsome man, the most handsome man among the children of Israel. From his shoulder upward he was taller than any of the people. But is this what God looks for when He wants to set a king over His people? Does He not search the hearts of children to find somebody to shepherd His flock?

Are you a king? Or do you, like Saul, think of yourself as the least among the children of Israel? Do you look at the little you have, or your qualifications, and think that God cannot use you? The truth is that if you do not make yourself available for the Lord to use, God will not use you.

Saul had a mentality that being a Benjamite meant being belittled. God does not work on the caste system. God is no respecter of persons; He treats each of His children exactly the same. Are you a king that God wants to appoint over His people? Here are two things to consider about being a leader:

1. Your only qualification to be a leader is that you must have the Holy Spirit abiding in you. If you do not have the Holy Spirit or if you are quenching the power of the Holy Spirit in your life you will not be as effective a leader as God wants you to be.

2. If you want to be a good leader, fly with eagles and don't crawl with chickens. Do not get bothered when chickens cackle against you. A good leader will hear the words of discouragement, but will overcome those words with the Word of God. Also, surround yourself with eagles, filled with the power of God, who will guide you, encourage you and build you up into being a great leader.
