Faith Like a Mustard Seed
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Matthew 17:20Why does Jesus use a mustard seed to describe your faith? Most people describe the seed as a "little small seed." But many fail to see the potential that a mustard seed has.
In Luke 13:19, Jesus says, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it."
The littlest seed of faith in your life has the potential to become a great tree. Treat your faith like a talent — if you use your talent, God adds to it. You get better at what you are doing.
The Bible says that Jesus is the "author" (which means He instituted faith, He planted that seed in you) and the perfecter (or finisher, which means that faith needs to be nurtured and developed and built up in your life) of your faith.
This means that your mustard seed faith is all God needs, together with your trust in JESUS, to make your life a life where birds come and lodge in your branches, and animals come and sit under the shade of your faith.
Your faith has the potential to heal others, to set others free. We see many examples of how the apostles faith healed and delivered.
But heres one more ... mustard seeds are powerful stimulants. Faith stimulates you. It pushes you forward, gives you strength for another day, keeps you motivated. And like most good stimulants, they attract people. And you become a Kingdom-builder.
All it takes is faith as small as a mustard seed.
