At the Altar
And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
Genesis 8:20Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD amongst a perverse generation. There are a wealth of lessons you can learn on the life of Noah and why he found this grace; but I want to focus on three:
1. Noah walked with God. In other words, he walked in the will of God, in the ways of truth and righteousness, in a manner well-pleasing to the LORD and, most importantly, in very close communion with God.
2. Noah was a just man. He was a righteous man, characterised by fairness, integrity and justice among the people.
3. He was obedient to what the LORD told him to do. God gave Noah specific instructions on how to build the ark, including the height and the width of the ark, and the number of windows for the ark. And "thus did Noah, according to all that God commanded him, so did he." No arguments. No "Ifs" and no "Buts". Just absolute obedience and total submission to what the LORD asked of him.
After the old was washed away, and after dry ground was found, the first thing Noah did was build an altar unto God. That act came from a heart of thanksgiving and a heart of acknowledging Gods redemptive power. To Noah, giving thanks to God and erecting the altar as a service to God with a view to renew worship to Him was top priority.
Today, through the blood of Jesus, you are redeemed. The old man is washed away and you are made a new creation. Today, will you renew your life of worship to God? Today, will you give your God your everything, just as He gave His everything for you?
