Hide His Word
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Psalm 119:11David was the king of Israel, anointed by Samuel when David was but a young shepherd. Throughout the Bible we read about Davids victories and the valiant battles that he won. We read about the spears that missed him, the bear that could not kill him and the lion that could not devour him. We also read about his defeats, and how he sold out his friend, Uriah, so he could marry Bathsheba.
Basically, David had very much the same life as many of us do today ... we all have our victories, where we know that we have overcome the works of the enemy and the fiery darts that he threw at us. And we have our defeats as well, where we just didn't stand on the Word of God and, out of our own strength and chasing our own lusts, we were defeated.
David writes an interesting line in Psalm 119:11. David does not say that he kept Gods Word in his heart. Neither does the verse say that he memorised the word. This verse says that he hid the Word. He hid it so that nobody could find it.
David knew that, just as Jesus warned you and I, there are ravaging wolves and devouring birds of prey that want to snatch Gods Word from your life. David hid the Word so that the enemy could not get it out of him. David hid the Word because he knew that the Word went forth sharper than any two-edged sword and crushed his enemies.
Now, also note that David hid the Word in his heart. Nowhere else but in his heart. Why the heart? Because the heart holds the secret purposes, intents and designs of a person. Because out of the heart flow all issues of life. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. When you plant Gods Word in your heart, you speak the Word — and the Word is God, the Word is the way, the truth and the LIFE to them that believe in His Word. The more you speak Gods Word the more victory you will experience in your life.
