The Comfort Zone

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy fathers house, unto a land that I will show thee.

Genesis 12:1

Ever reached a comfort zone in your life? A comfort zone makes you lazy. It also fills your life with pride. You learn everything there is to know when you are in a comfort zone, and then start bragging about how much knowledge you have and how quickly you can get things done.

Abram was in a comfort zone. He had married Sarai, lived in his fathers house, and was able to accumulate wealth, and take over his fathers land when he passed on. But God is not into comfort zones.

Abram had two choices when God spoke to him. His first choice was to ignore Gods word and stay in his comfort zone or he could listen to the voice of God. Abram could easily have chosen the former one — he was rich and had a household of servants ready to serve him. He did not need more riches.

But he chose the latter — he obeyed God, packed up and got out of his comfort zone. And, by doing so, he gained access to the heavenlies and became a mighty nation. So great was his household that Abram had his only personal army.

Many Christians today are like a sparrow. They build a nest in a valley and enter a comfort zone at the bottom of the mountain with no dreams or aspirations of soaring with wings of an eagle. God made you an eagle. He does not want you settling for a meagre sparrows life. He wants you to rise beyond that.

Eagles build their nests high up in the mountains. They have big dreams, big aspirations, they enjoy greater security in their lives, and live a more successful life. Today, soar like an eagle. Take the initiative to be more and do more in the Kingdom of God. God sees that initiative and He will run with you, He will direct you and He will keep you soaring above the clouds.
